As a little girl, you could never find me without jewelry. I wore bracelets up to my elbows and stacked on more headbands, necklaces, and belts than I could count. Although my style evolved with time, my love never changed. Expressing myself through jewelry has always felt second nature!
Years later, in a season of many life changes, jewelry making unexpectedly came into my life. I saw a pair of earrings in a local store and had the thought, "Rather than buying these, why don't I make them myself?" Youtube became my best friend and sure enough, I was captivated from the start.
I found myself staying up late at night, eagerly making one pair of earrings after another. Next thing I know, I’m learning all sorts of techniques to bring my creative visions to life. Suddenly, jewelry making was shifting from a side hobby to something much bigger.
Around that time, my husband and I were hiking to a remote waterfall in the jungles of Maui when the song “Alegria” started incessantly playing in my head. This was the theme song of a Cirque du Soleil show I loved growing up, meaning joy in both Spanish and Italian. I was reminded of the overwhelming joy I felt as a child watching that show. It was the same feeling I had making jewelry. In that moment, I knew “Alegria” was meant to be the name of my future jewelry company.
After an incredible pregnancy and first year of motherhood, Alegria was finally ready to be born. It has been such a gift to share this piece of my heart with the world. The joy I felt in making my first pair of earrings has only grown. I pray that this joy touches the hearts of everyone who buys their own Alegria!
